Beginning your Green Beauty Journey can be overwhelming and I am going to share with you where to begin!Read More
I once ordered a gift from a magazine that was randomly delivered to my door. It was an upscale magazine that offered personalized gifts and I saw something that I knew would be perfect for my Mother. When it arrived it was in a beautiful white box. I opened it to find a gold seal and tissue that was crisply wrapped around the perfectly nestled gift box. A note was included to thank me for my purchase. It was an EXPERIENCE.
There is something to be said for this experience. I was excited when I ordered not knowing exactly what to expect. I had the thrill of the order and the anticipation of it's arrival. I was filled with excitement once again, when it arrived and then fell in love when I opened it. It is so easy for a Company to throw on a little bubble wrap and stick it in a box. The thought and the care that is taken to create an experience can be something that will last forever. I try to accomplish just that.
My goal is to create an EXPERIENCE for each person that visits The Skin Food Shop. Every message or email sent to me is followed by a quick response. I feel a friendship has been created. I feel a personal connection to every person that inquires or orders my products. I care. I am submerged in my products and they are essentially and extension of me. I really do put love in every batch. If I am not in the most perfect state of mind, I do not put my hands to work. It is peaceful in my Shop. It is a sanctuary. Positivity, Peace, Love and Amazing Ingredients are what help create the Skin Food Experience.

Every item that is made is touched and handled by me with great care. As if it were being delivered to a Elle Magazine or a Famous Beauty Editor. Every package is perfectly wrapped to include a note because even though it is a purchase made by you, it is a Gift from me. Whether is is a treat for yourself, your family or a friend it is a GIFT. Every Item is wrapped, stamped, taped, tied and tucked neatly into it's place, in a box that has taken on the aromas of my Shop. A note is written to "thank you" for your purchase and I genuinely sign "Enjoy". I wonder about every package as it leaves me and think of the distance it travels and what hands it may pass through. Most of all, I think of the excitement that it may bring when someone receives it. What aromas they smell of the Skin Food Shop. If they carefully peel back the washi tape with excitement or childishly rip it open as if it was Christmas morning. I am blessed I am able to create this experience. I hope that I set the bar for receiving packages because it is so much more than placing an order and receiving your item. It is the Skin Food Experience.
SKIN FOOD SAUERKRAUT 2014
In case I am ever in a spelling bee I am forever grateful I can spell SAUERKRAUT. And after a recent misspelling on an Instagram post....I can spell GRATEFUL. Wowzas! I thought I was amazingly grammatically correct! Well, I am full of run-ons, improper use of punctuation and better yet....full of dots, periods and smiley faces :) But hey, if you don't love it, don't read it. I guess I am hoping my infectious personality jumps from one of my exclamation points right into your heart and warms it up. Sound Cheesey? Well, why not. I'm breaking all of the other rules!
GET ON WITH IT!
After much hesitation, because I read somewhere that the UBER successful are so because of procrastination and over thinking and not wanting to make a hasty decision, I decided to join the Crafters of the 2014 Sauerkraut Festival.
I was warned of the size of this Handmade Festival but I had never attended. So when 8am on Saturday morning rolled around I was carefully putting the last minute touches on my booth and lining my old wine boxes with facial oils and body butters. I could hear the crowds of passers by-ers and I was a little afraid to pull back the walls of my tent. I didn't know what to expect and we weren't scheduled to open until 9am. I sat for a moment took a deep breathe drank a large sip from my lemon and mint self infused water. I had a moment of reflection. And realized in 4 short days, lack of sleep and help from my family and friends, I did it.
My husband and I drove down the night before with an SUV filled with a tent, tables and decor. I told him it was a big festival. I don't think he believed me until we pulled up to unload. Tents lined the streets. Up down and even the side streets. I was nervous. I have never even set up a tent. Sounds silly but it was freezing and raining. He helped my unload the car, set up the tent and attach our upcycled lights. Which by the way were a HIT! We really don't get much time alone together. Even though we were both cold, wet and tired it was all I could do but smile. On the way home I held his hand.
CURLING MY HAIR AT 4AM! ABSURD!
4am. Yes, that is exactly what time I woke up, showered and curled my hair. Leaving in record time I grabbed a coffee and raced out the door! Arrived, parked and walked peacefully to my booth space. Like I said before I could hear the passerby-ers rushing by at a prompt 8am. As I pulled back my curtains I instantly had a sale. From that moment on I barely had time to use the restroom. The crowd of people was so thick at times you could barely see across the street at the other booth. For example I was starving and did not realize until 15 minutes to close I was next to a food booth. I was excited to see familiar faces and humbled to meet new faces. Some recognized my packaging or were currently using my products.
If I had to pick the product of the Weekend I would say it was the Body Butter with a close second the Facial Oil. The deodorant was gone rather quickly as well. I had a jar of each body butter open for anyone to try. Some would try, walk away and come back. Some would try, look at the top of their hand and the difference that it made and would buy on the spot. What I loved was that there was an interest. Not just in the smell of the products but the ingredients and their purpose. People were asking questions. Wondering what does this product do for me. This is what I want. My ultimate goal. I want each person to be an advocate for their own health. I believe there is a need for products with a purpose. There is a movement of people educating themselves and others on what we eat, what products we use and the lifestyle choices we makes. And finally, we are recognizing the WHOLENESS this synergy can bring into our lives.
I had the opportunity to meet some amazing people. Some I will never forget. Some bought products that day and others have placed orders since . I made a new friend or two and I hope I see them again. For me it is seeing eczema disappear from a child's arm. Meeting a grown adult that is embarrassed to show their hand and tear up when they apply a product and it doesn't burn their skin. I am caring. I am giving. This is perfect for me. I have always read and heard that you find your Passion, you do what you absolutely love and making money is just a bonus. It is true.
Thanks for following along my first trade show experience! I will be at Holiday Market in Cincinnati on November 14th-16th! I hope to see you there!
An infusion of Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Menthol, Aloe Vera and Evening Primrose Oil. This was originally created to replace the common menthol chest rub. I later found that this is an all purpose cream wonderful for everything from alleviating discomfort associated with sunburn to bug bites. It is my personal favorite for a sore and tired neck. A nightly ritual in my household when muscles are tired, colds arise and my babies struggle through a cold.
I recently attended a good friends birthday party. She was introducing me to new faces and we stumbled across a woman that has been ordering my products. It was quite a coincidence since she traveled over 45 minutes to be at the party. She proceeded to tell me her story.
She injured her ankle and was told she needed surgery. Reluctant she went ahead with it anyway but has struggle to heal. She is unable to get much needed rest because she is required to stay on her feet and care for her husband. She told me she was at a loss.
"I wasn't sure what to do. I have tried everything. I started using your cream and I am actually able to rest and sleep at night." Her daughter was standing next to her and said, " tell her the best part".
As if the ability to sleep at night wasn't enough she said " My doctor asked what I have been doing different since my last visit and I told him just using a different balm. He said he saw a significant decrease in inflammation."
I smiled ear to ear. I understand pain. I see so many of my clients in pain on a daily basis. As a mother of 4 I also know that restless or even lack of sleep makes functioning sometimes seem impossible. Teary eyed she thanked me. MEANS the WORLD! I thanked her the gratitude I have for someone to take a leap of faith. Trust me, Trust the power of Herbs and oils that are here for us to use to HEAL. I am happy to know she is now a Skin Foodie!

Charcoal Detox Soap- The Ultimate Powerhouse of Facial Cleansers
CHARCOAL? Why, YES!
Charcoal has been used for centuries. A single teaspoon can cover approximately 10,00 square feet. Crazy. It absorbs and binds pulling toxins, heavy metals, bacterial and basically anything this little giant can carry. I am so obsessed with charcoal I use it to brush my teeth! BRUSH YOUR TEETH? Um, yeah! I may look like i ate a mouth full of dirt but when these pearly whites are brushed with a little charcoal they are brighter and whiter. My breath is even fresh because the charcoal absorbs all of the bad stuff. Now, PLEASE don't bite off a chuck of your soap and brush. EEEW. If you are interested in a tooth polish you can make your own or visit my Etsy shop. If you feel brave enough to create your own I have found that a mixture of Charcoal, Coconut Oil and a little Peppermint Essential OIl is the best formula. Just enough Coconut oil to create a paste for easier application. Together they work in sync to help alleviate sensitive gums, teeth, and brighten your smile.
Now Charcoal for your face!
This soap is AMAZING! They are all amazing but this one is very special. I make three soaps before I make this very special soap. The Charcoal Detox Soap contains, Lime for its Skin Brightening qualities. Grapefruit for promoting circulation and the antioxidant effects protect the skin from environmental hazards. It also stimulates the production of skin collagen that brings smoothness and elasticity to the skin. The retinol antioxidant gives your skin softness and, renews damaged skin and treats skin pigmentation. The Charcoal helps detoxify the skin. Charcoal draws impurities and toxins out of the skin, helping to relieve acne and other skin problems. It is SUPER EFFECTIVE without being HARSH. Use this bar on your face or all over your body. It contains Anise an Essential oil used to treat skin conditions. Smelling a little like licorice and your favorite candy combined this soap is a winner.
